'N' Loco parts and 'N' kits
|
The railways have a fascinating history. In any year of their existence, parts from the early years survived. Locos from the 1880s survive in preservation (often very changed), buildings survive on the national rail network, on preserved railways and in private use. Simple items like windows can go back tens of years. To select the part or kit right for a modeling project can be difficult.
N Brass parts and kits are grouped in the traditional way, by the company that first used them. If that is a pre grouping company (era 2) it is then grouped under The Big Four Company (era 3) it became part off. The Big Four became British Railways (era 4 & 5). This grouping is largely geographical, the name of the railway company is often a guide to where it was in Britain. (See bottom of page.)
N Brass Locos offer a choice of over 250 loco parts, grouped as above. Long lived locos could have parts from several eras. The L&NWR Coal Tank was built in 1888 with Webb buffers, enclosed safety valve and no coal rails. The L&NWR fitted coal rails, the LMS changed both safety valves and buffers, and in preservation it has been retro fitted with Webb buffers and enclosed safety valve. Sometimes parts from different companies were very similar, the LMS 3mm buffer can be used as a GWR Collet locomotive buffer. Parts can be compared on the "All Parts" page where they are organised by type and found on the other pages where they are organised by the company that first used them. And if you do not have the time to browse email us with your query.
We will get back to you with a list of possible parts.
Photographs, please remember you are looking at N gauge items, the photographs are often far bigger than the parts are.
